Joy of Dance

An outdoor dance and music performance.
A celebration.
This project examines the embodiment of joy in dance. It developed as I noticed an unshakable feeling of joy through movement, no matter the content of the work. It has become clearer to me that joy, unlike happiness, is not based on my circumstances, but rather it is rooted in a sense of contentment and freedom to express. I have discovered that my experience with the joy of dance is heavily influenced by my faith in Jesus Christ, so I have relied on scriptural study and fellowship with my cast to guide my creative inquiry. The outcome of this process was an outdoor dance and music performance on Saturday, April 17th, 2021.

Dance is an act of rejoicing in the freedom of expression, despite circumstances, or perhaps alongside them.
